I get this question often from those visiting the city for a weekend looking for non-touristy or different things to do in Boston. Here are a few of my favorites!

Kayak the Charles River or Walk the Esplanade
When the weather is nice (and make sure it’s not too windy!) you can rent kayaks on the Charles River. It’s a great different activity to do and if you start near downtown Boston you can enjoy awesome views of the city from the water! If you aren’t the type that enjoys kayaking, definitely go for a stroll down the Esplanade. On a nice day you’ll find many people out running, walking, or biking along the paths and just enjoying time outdoors.
Take a Duck Boat Tour
There are many tour guide options in Boston but the Duck Boats are my favorite! These unique boats go from the streets to the water – and the guides are fantastic and full of energy. These boats go through the city for our sports championship parades, so they are extra special to us! The greats like Big Papi and Tom Brady have been on board π

Visit the Museum of Fine Arts (MFA)
Get lost exploring the MFA exhibits! I could easily spend 6+ hours here each time I go (and I definitely don’t go often enough). I can’t recommend this enough, the museum is great for anyone interested in history or arts.
Grab a Lobster Roll and Clam Chowder
This is a must. You can’t leave Boston without enjoying a lobster roll and cup of clam chowder! Both are traditional New England seafood staples. There’s a great debate on the “right” way to have a lobster roll – hot or cold. I’ve had both, but lean towards cold! My go-to spot for a great lobster roll and clam chowder is Legal Harborside in the Seaport.

Take a Tour at Fenway Park
First – try to grab tickets to a game! If you can’t for whatever reason, I highly recommend taking a tour of Fenway Park instead. You’ll get a behind-the-scenes look at the ballpark and hear all about the history of our stadium. If you take a tour before a game you might even catch batting practice!
Grab a Coffee from Tatte
Hopefully you have long days enjoying the city… and as you go, stop for pastries and coffee at Tatte! It’s a cute local bakery with many locations around the city. I love their sandwiches too – the Turkey B.L.A.T. is my favorite.

Walk Around the Different Neighborhoods
Boston is a very walkable city – so wear comfortable shoes! Especially because the brick pathways can be tricky / a bit uneven. The best way to truly explore the city is just by walking around it! Each neighborhood is so different. So build in time to stroll though – Beacon Hill, the North End, South End, Southie, Downtown, and Seaport are my favorites (just to name a few *winky face*).
